Do you want to get out of debt? If so, why don't you keep reading on for 3 mistakes you don't want to make. By avoiding these mistakes, you are more likely to see success and that success is living a life that is free and clear of debt.

Mistake #1 - Not Having a Set Plan in Place
Debt is not something that will go away. Nor, is it something that can be handled on a whim. You must have a set plan in place. This plan is important whether you are enrolled in a settlement program or doing all the work yourself. Know what you intend to say to debt settlement companies or to the credit card companies; know exactly how much money you owe; know how much money you can put towards paying off your debt each month. It will take you no more than a couple of hours to create this plan, but it will do wonders for your quest to get out of debt.
Mistake #2 - Not At Least Considering Professional Assistance
As you know, there are many ways for you to get out of debt. One of your options includes calling upon professional assistance. Do one standard internet search with the phrase "debt relief" and you will get a lot of results. You will find companies and programs that specialize in debt settlement, credit counseling, consolidation, and more! Those who enroll themselves in a debt relief program are likely to see the best results. These individuals tend to get out of debt and a lot quicker. In no way am I saying that you must seek professional assistance, but at least consider it.
Mistake #3 - Not Giving It Your All
Whether you decide to handle the get out of debt process yourself or if you decide to acquire the services of a professional company or program, getting out of debt is not a walk in the park. For instance, settlement does eliminate some of your debt. While you do end up owing much less to the credit card companies, you still do owe them money. This money isn't going to magically appear. As previously stated, you must have a plan in place to be successful. If you decide that you can pay $100 a month towards your debt, do it. You didn't pull this figure out of midair; it was part of your plan meaning you should be able to come up with the money. Debt relief, whether you seek help or do it yourself is very serious and it should be treated that way.
If you are over $10,000 in unsecured debt you really should consider getting a debt settlement. Creditors of unsecured debt are fearful of collecting and they also have stimulus money to make debt settlements financially feasible for them. Once the economy turns around it will be too late to eliminate your debt.
